Beautiful sunlight. That was the only thing that Axos could think about. There was a wind blowing at his back as the cloak that he wore tapped the back of his knees. The breeze caused him to shiver, the snap freezing him to his soul. There was a faraway look in his eyes as the beginning of nightfall fell upon Fiore. He was strong- that was for sure. Yet, he still worried a bit for his life ending immediately. That was the fear upon everyone's minds, especially lingering in the back. There was nothing that motivated someone more than death- either away or towards it. Yet, it was very real for Axos. As much as he paraded around, his confidence on full blast, he was a victim of the greatest fear of all- of nothing. Of the ending of a life. Yet, here he was, encountering a mission in which he chose to take. Rather, he was forced to take- not because of money, but because of the fear of his hometown becoming destroyed, of his friends losing their lives right before him.
”AXOS!” said a voice from right beside him, as he felt roughly hit by what seemed like a moving stone. He hung on, collapsing just a little bit before he held his ground. He looked at the young girl clutching his arm, his younger sister. She was a beautiful blonde girl, around 16 years old. She was finally approved to go on missions, and this one was a relatively easy one. Axos decided to take her with him, to both teach her the ropes of being a working wizard, as well as teach her how to handle certain situations. Of course, she took his advice liberally, and didn’t bother to change much. At least, she does now. The mission would tell otherwise.
”Hey there Adalgisa.” Axos said, smiling. Here was one of his few remaining family members. The rest of his family was nowhere to be found. They were said to be traveling gypsies, but Axos knew nothing else about them. There was a surprising lack of detail about who the people were that dropped the two siblings off. All that Axos knew was of the gypsy cart. Because of this, he grew up taking care of his sister, acting both like a brother and father. He grew strong to protect her. She was his world- his life. He had his friends, of course, who he loved very much. But none that he cared for as much as his sister. She was his only blood that he knew.
The city sped by them as the cart took them to their location. Axos knew that this was an easy mission- there would be no possibility of harm coming to either of them. And he was certain that with his skills and his magic, there would be nothing that could go horribly wrong. Especially considering his magic was considered a lost magic. He wasn’t quite a master with it, but he was incredibly proficient with it. But, that would be saved for a later time. Axos sat, glancing once at his sister. She was enjoying the cart ride, her eyes and mind wandering to adventures she will attend soon enough. It was wonderful, the expression of joy that held her face in a smile. There was nothing else that made Axos’ heart flutter then that expression of happiness.
”AXOS, AXOS, we’re almost there! My first mission!” His younger sister said, leaping out of her seat and pointing towards the small town they came upon. The mission was simple enough- for extremely low rank wizards. They were just looking for a cat. Although this took place a little further, it was still within the scope of the Fairy Tail guild. Axos chose this one because it was a good way to bring about Adalgisa into the world a bit easier. Also, it would allow her to start saving up some money. It was for her beginning. Little did either of them know- it was her end.
The two hopped off the carriage, and went to the meeting spot on which they were supposed to meet up with the man who proposed the mission. As they gathered in front of the house, presumably the man’s house, Axos could smell the anxiousness on his younger sister. It was there, right here. As much as he has to say it, Axos knew everything would change from here. It was then that the event happened. A single swoosh of sound cut through the air, next to Axos. It seemed as if time slowed right at this moment. Axos glanced to his side as the sword sliced through the air, aiming at the front door of the house. There was his sister, right in its path. One more second… and…
Nothing. His sister dived out of the way. The entire feeling of this morning changed as Axos got into fight mode, running down the enemy who threw the weapon. His sister followed him, her fire magic getting thrown at the man. After a couple of shots, the man fell, his leg burned from the fire magic. Axos caught up to the man and pinned him down again. Axos pressed his knee into the wound- the enemy cried in pain.
"WHO ARE YOU?" Axos asked, his voice raised. He was frightened… and exhilarated at the same time. It’s always how it is like in battle. Instead of answering, the man smiled. As his mouth opened, Axos saw what was happening. He jumped back, his body moving faster than the explosion. Body parts scattered everywhere, including all over his sister. She cried in fear, wiping the traumatic moment from her memory. Of course, it didn’t prepare her for what came next. A sword, swiping through her waist. It was the man from the picture- the one who requested the mission.
His sister’s eyes widened, her mouth open, screaming in pain. All Axos could do was scream as he used his magic to absolutely crush the man. The man was flattened like a pancake, destroyed by the intense magic power of Axos. He then ran to his sister, his eye’s wet with the tears of a brother who loved his sister…..
---------2 weeks later----------
The shock wore off… only slightly, of course. There was a dramatic change in Axos’ personality. It was different- a bit colder, a big more laughter to hide the pain. It seemed that every time he could laugh, it was sad. Yet, after eradicating the fairy tail-hating gang that set the mission up, Axos still did not feel as if he had adequate revenge. It was why he decided to go on one of the most dangerous missions possible- a 10 year mission. He needed to become stronger. He couldn’t save his beloved sister, and now, he needs to become strong enough to protect the rest of his guild.
I hope she is watching.. Axos said, his heart crying out to his sister. Her laugh, her personality still lingered within him. He was gone… or at least, his old self was gone. He became distant, yet protective. This was what his legacy was turning out to be. As he turned to look at his town, his sword in hand, his magic in his head, and his strength behind him, he decided to go forth. It was time to fight the evil that lay in this world, so that others did not have to deal with what he dealt- the pain of death.
Hypocritically enough, it all starts from the beginning- the rush towards death. And now, Axos was stuck in the loop. He feared it, he hated it- it took from him his heart. And yet, now, he was rushing towards it, perhaps hoping it would take his life- or, he would take others’ lives with it. This was the fate of those who became Mages. And this was the fate of those who wanted to fight in this world, a world escaping or journeying towards death.
