An Encounter (Arina) Empty An Encounter (Arina)

Chao's legs assumed a slow pace as he walked into the guildhall of Dragon Heart; he was tired from "work"- an open-bracket tournament-style fight in which he participated to gain some quick cash as he was running low. He had won matches up to the finals, but lost the last battle; as such, he was incredibly bitter. He trundled through the guild's foyer and into the main hall, where he made his way to the bar and asked for a mug of beer. Alcohol in hand, he then made his way to a lounge chair in the corner; upon reaching his destination he sat in solitude and sulked. This sort of situation always seemed to happen to him- he didn't feel as though coming in second place would gain him any respect, and all he really desired was respect. As he ran through ways his fight could have gone differently, he sipped the booze, savoring the strong flavor as it snaked down his throat.

It took many drinks to make Chao tipsy, so his cognitive abilities were not impaired by the time he finished this mug. He thought to get more, but he was too tired and unmotivated at the moment to move. He knew this lack of motivation would likely leave him after some sleep (after which he would resume training for the next fight) but he did not feel like sleeping. He was content to stay in his lounge chair in his semi-conscious state of self-loathing. He hadn't seen anyone in the guild since he arrived, so he felt glad about having some potential alone time lest someone else show up.

For the most part, it was a quiet day at the guildhall-- though it seemed that lately most days could be classified in the same way. Regardless, since her arrival to Dragon Heart, the brunette found herself frequenting the hall. The young woman had grown up in near complete isolation, and it caused her to even in the midst of her young adult life, seek contact with other breathing, sentient beings: even if only through proximity. Today had been no different, the young woman had been present most the day, teetering between the lounge and the library, a stack of books accompanying her in either direction she went. She had been determined to read the large collection of fine literature that the Dragon Heart guild had to offer, and thus far she had made quite sufficient progress. While the woman had been quite enjoying her reading in solitude, she had, in the early hours of the day, found a need to stifle her desire for human companionship.

The afternoon had begun to mature, and the woman emerged again from the library, pushing the large, wooden doors outwards, as she had done a good half-dozen times since she had arrived in the morning. A new stack of books were towered in her arms as she walked back towards the large arm chair that she had nested in for the day. As she neared the area, she found herself stopping abruptly. In the chair that she had settled into for the majority of the day, was now occupied. Her brow furrowed, as she watched him in her frozen state. She was trying to determine if she should divert herself somewhere else, or ask the man to move from her chair. Being the non-confrontational and non-territorial person that she was, she would likely choose the former, though her lack of human interaction urged her to push forward.

She compromised with the two options, taking the closest arm chair, to the left of the man. Her emerald orbs scanned him discretely from the corner of her eye, as she opened a book. She had honestly been studying the man in an attempt to pair his face with an archived name of other members, but she had been caught off guard instead by the negative energy that seemed to radiate around the man. Had his aura not been enough to give away a foul mood, though his body language suggested the same without question. His rather large frame was slouched in the chair, an empty beer mug at his side. Arina bit her tongue. She knew most people didn't care to be bothered when they were upset, but her desire for human interaction got the better of her.

"Someone told me once that if one were to keep a scowl on his face that it would remain that way for all of eternity." she began. She wasn't the greatest at comforting people, despite her many attempts to do so. Her hand folded neatly under her chin as she waited patiently for a reply, studying the man's face still, desperately searching for the name that went with it. "I would imagine life would feel much more pleasant with a smile instead." she shrugged some, hoping that she would at least get some sort of reaction from the man. Had he decided to ignore her, at least she had the novels to keep her company. They always found her jokes funny after all.
