Al awoke and took a deep breath as he could not believe that he had taken this responsibility, this weight upon his shoulders. He knew full well what this entailed and the power that he would have to take to heart but there is only one thing that he truly cared for. For his Fairy Tail family. He remembered the feeling of pain at the loss of some many of his brethren. He did not think that the master would feel the need to step down due to the losses that they had suffered. "It just doesn't make sense ... Dammit why did you have to do that!" Alexir thumped down hard with his fist on his bed side table before letting out an aggrieved sigh. He was still trying to get to grips with the fact that the Guild had named him Master now due to a guild vote. He could not find their reasoning but he was humbled none the less to be given such a gracious title but the title was not his main concern, his main concern was the morale of the members in the guild and their own pains. He got out of bed and went to stand in front of his bathroom mirror, looking back at him stood a 19 year old man, his purple hair covers his eyes but yet you could still see the deeper purple that lay there and the passion to step up and protect his friends; "Prove to them that they did not make this choice in vein. Make Fairy Tail proud." Al spoke to himself before taking a long deep breath and preparing for the day that lie ahead of him.
[flashback] Al watched as the Master left, and tears welled in his eyes as he watched his body disappear into the darkness. The whole guild wept and held one another and Al could only clench his fists and charge up the stairs to stand on the banister of the S class floor; "Stop Crying!" He cried as everyone turned to stare at him in astonishment; "Do. Not. Cry... The Master was the life light in this guild and he has made a choice with his heart. That is what Fairy Tail is, What Fairy Tail stands for! All of us here love each other, we are a family. Regardless of what may happen outside of these walls our bond will never be broken, it can NEVER be severed! Members past and present are still here in heart and should not and will not EVER be forgotten! All of you here have been here a lot longer than I have but I love this guild! All of you have shown me a love I could never have imagined! This is our family and dammit it will not be broken!" Al shouted at the top of his lungs as tears streamed from his face. Chester his ginger Exceed stared up at him eyes full of tears as his hands covered his mouth. All of the members stared then, regardless of tears and the pain some small smiles began to appear. " All of you... Show the Master that our love will be with him... Always... Never wavering, our resolve and our bond can never be undone, no matter the distance. In life and in death... WE ARE FAIRY TAIL!!!" With this Al threw his arm in the air holding the signature 'L' and stared out of the door from which the Master had left as he looked too his left he sprung himself from the banister to reach for a box sealed in tape but with no effort at all it was pulled open and inside lay a level, as with all of his might Naz pulled down hard on the lever. The whole guild exploded in light as the Fairy tail light shone in the sky illuminating the sky of Magnolia with the emblem of Fairy Tail.
The whole guild looked at him and one by one the hands flew into the air he looked at them as the loud speaker came out over the town of Magnolia; " Master... All of us here will love you... But there things you of all people must know! One, you must never reveal sensitive information about Fairy Tail to others for as long as you live! Two, you must not have unauthorised contact with past clients or profit personally from them and three! Even if we walk different paths, one must always live as strong as you are able! You must never treat your life as something insignificant; you must never forget the friends you love for as long as you live!" Tears were freefalling and Alexir would not stop them. This was a sad day by all accounts and he would not let it end so casually. He saw one final button which he fired a shot at with a smile; "Farewell... Master..." The button was hit and fireworks exploded from area outside the guild in a magnificent display. As a final send off to the former master and as wishing of good will to him and everything that she would achieve in his life. Fairy Tail had lost its master, but was about to gain another, who's heart was like diamond in the body of the Fairy Tail guild.
[back to reality] He had never wanted to see the Master leave, he didn't want anyone to leave. He got ready and walked into the guild as everyone looked at him, he had been chosen to replace the former master, a mere boy in comparison and with less experience but his heart was the most powerful tool he had and the bond he shared with all of Fairy Tail shone through like a neon light. He approached a few members who were sat crying. "I don't want any of you to cry.. Alright? Master is still here in spirit, all of the lessons he taught us aren't going to go away..." He took a few steps over to the bar and poured an ale for every member and began passing them out to each one in turn sharing kind words; " Y'know, it's hard to express how I feel right now, how any of us must feel but I need to say that Master isn't really gone... You all shared an amazing bond together... Honour the choice made with your own heart." He spoke to each member given them words of peace and comfort before standing on a table in front of all of Fairy Tail; " To the Master! May his heart always lead his way, may his love fulfil his dreams and may his soul be with all those past and all of Fairy Tail." He watched as they all raised their glasses and took a drink; " Now.. I know that it was a decision that all of us didn't want to make, but as the new Guild master I have one rule... Never let our bonds be broken! All of us know the hardships of work, of losing ones we love but nothing can ever take away our memories, our feelings for one another. Cherish them and they will always lead you true and will always bring you home." He smiled as he saw faces smiling back at him. He sat with each guild member asking them of their fondest memories of their former leader, of any hilarious moments. Soon the guild was having a party in the former Master's honour and everyone had seemed to have their spirits lifted; "That's good... They needed to not mourn his leaving..." He walked up into the S- Rank floor and looked at the board and then began walking around the guild looking at various jobs and everyone down below.
Nothing was going to change the Master's leaving but he would do everything in his power to keep Fairy Tail together and to cherish every single member. He went into his office and began to look at the paperwork that sat in front of him with a look of shock on his face. The paperwork was in piles 4 feet high and was layered around the room, he stared at them for a moment and then let out a deep sigh; " You couldn't help it could ya?" He smiled with a little laugh as he began looking through each of the piles seeing everything from food bills to destruction bills to bills of service and repairs to the Guild Hall. "There is no way that all of this piled up over night?!" Al put his hands through his hair as Chester the Exceed knocked on the open door frame and walked in; " Yo Al... Do I have to call you master now?" He smiled and Alexir tapped his desk looking at Chester who came over and hopped onto the desk looking at him soulfully; " Alexir is everything gonna change?" His smiled seemed to disappear and Alexir rubbed his head gently; No.. Nothing is going to change. Even as Guild master I would not change how this guild is run or how people are, it will always be a sanctuary to anyone who needs it, a home to orphans, the confused and the unloved. This guild gave us what no one else has and I will not let it fall into ruin… It’s just, we’ve lost so much in so little time." He saw Chester contemplate his words for a second before a smile appeared lightly on his fuzzy face as he jumped up and hugged him tightly; "I'm scared Al! We've never done anything like this before! I don't want things to change! I don't want to lose anyone else!" He sobbed gently in Alexir's arms and he hugged the small exceed tighter; " Nothing is going to change Chester... No one is going to leave us and no one is going to let us down... Their Fairy Tail pride won't let them." He smiled and rubbed the little cat's head.
He began looking at the paper work once more and paused for moment. He sighed and look out a piece of writing script and began writing to each of the legal guild in Fairy Tail;
" I am writing to you to inform the departure of the Master. He has regretfully decided to step down as Guild Master of Fairy Tail. That being said I am his new replacement. My name Is Alexir Black and much like my Predecessor I am stubborn, dedicated and the proud Master of all who bear Fairy Tail's mark. I know that Fairy Tail will find this choice hard to bear and I know many of you and your Guild members held the Master in very high regard but none the less he will always be in our hearts and always a true member and spirit of Fairy Tail. I am writing to inform you of these sad tidings as well as wishing to bury any bad blood between any of us that may have had ill omens from one another. As Guilds we hold a great responsibility to one another and as Guild Masters even more so. This is a belief that all of us should hold dear, to protect this world from the menaces that are lingering in this world. I ask that all of us hold true on our bonds. To one another. To protect this world and its inhabitants and to uphold the oaths of our forefathers and mothers as Guild Masters. Let us not fall into darkness but bathe in the light.
I would request a meeting of all the legal guild Masters to discuss our current casualties and how we can help each other in these dark times.
All of my regards,
Alexir Black
Guild Master of Fairy Tail."[/i]
He sighed as he put his paper quill back down on the desk and sighed for a moment and decided it best to take a walk outside to take everything in. As he walked down the steps people were already waving and smiling at him, he knew the pain in their hearts but they respected the Master's choice and that was the main thing. He ventured out into the gardens and sat on the bench looking up at the Fairy Tail Sigel sitting above its gate as he sensed someone near him. He turned as his eyes widened in shock and disbelief as before him stood a woman, extremely beautiful but hey eyes showed an age beyond what he saw in front of him. Her long blonde hair blew in the wind as Al could only gasp in shock. He stood still as the woman drifted over to him and laid a finger on his lips, her smile was like a summer morning and her voice, so gentle and pure; "You need not say anything Al. You brought forth courage and love when all of Fairy Tail stood on a knife edge, you gave them hope when they had lost it. You do hold a pure heart and your love stood out like a beacon to those who wept. You helped save Fairy Tail. You saved what I love the most. Of all those in there, all of those Fairy Tail wizards with hearts so pure. I believe in you Al and I believe in your heart. You don’t know me but I once resided in this guild, long before you were born and I know a Master when I see one!" He laid a hand on his chest as tears welled in his eyes; " I-I.. I don’t know what to say, but I will try to make you proud..." He looked up at the guild hall as he glided onto the seat next to him. Al broke out in a warm smile as he looked at this beauty before him looking back at the mighty Guild hall. "They are so full of everything that Fairy Tail stands for... All of them show such strength and unity as a guild. It is truly amazing that they cannot be shaken, never destroyed. I am proud to be a part of Fairy Tail. It is a true honour to now be its guild master... Nothing will stop me from protecting this guild.” He bowed his head as she chuckled lightly to herself before hopping of the bench and walking around the corner to which Al got up and followed but she had vanished, his eyes wide with wonder as he knew that she had handed the baton to him without so much as a mention of her name. To speak so candidly about being a master, to care and love them with everything his heart and to give his life to care for them. He smiled and then headed inside once more to lean against one of the pillars inside the door to see the smiling and cheering faces inside all wishing the Master the best in his endeavours and the wishes of good fortune. Al could not believe the unwavering devotion that his guild shows to everyone it meets. Unrelenting in finding the best in every single individual. He saw his members jump and laugh; one flying around, a girl jumping from shadow to shadow, another having a conversation with himself, one of the terrifying female members having two members in headlocks as she grilled them about healthy eating. He could not help but smile brightly at what he saw; "So this is what it truly is to be a guild master? To look over all of them and know that they all give their devotion and lives to me to cherish... To protect them... Nothing is going to stop me from protecting all of you... Whatever may stand in our way, nothing can ever tears us apart and nothing will ever make me desert you. I promise." He thought to himself as he looked out over the crowds as mayhem ensued before him, but it was mayhem that gave them happiness. Fairy Tail would not be the same if it was restricted and not allowed the freedom it truly deserved.
Al quietly made his way back upstairs when he heard a massive crash from downstairs, he charged around the corner to see a girl holding one of the feisty males in a headlock calling him a pervert, the Devil knight hitting two drunk members around the room like a tennis ball and the shadow caster was blazing so bright she was knocking candles over and setting some of the tables alight. Al froze and felt as though his jaw had hit the bottom of the floor as he gasped and a tiny whine crept out;" They're going to be the death of me aren't they..." He whispered as he watched the destruction unfold, all hell had now broken loose in the guild that now was full of fun and laughter. Al put his hand to his face as he sighed deeply;" I'm gonna go back to my office and make a cup of Tea..." He sunk back as he heard the destruction behind him knowing the expenses to replace everything that was now but a pile of rubble. " Fairy Tail.. It will never be boring!" He spoke aloud as a laugh crept from his chest and suddenly he could not stop himself from laughing. Perhaps it was the emotions in the room below, perhaps it was another force giving him a sign? He was not sure what it was but he laughed his way back into his office and made his Tea before taking a seat once more at his desk looking over the Rank up requests. He could see several members were getting stronger and this made him smile more; " All growing up well and none of you are willing to quit." He shook his head with a chuckle as he placed the papers back in a pile and sat back in his chair admiring the levels of paperwork he still had to deal with.
Later that day he walked back into the guild hall to see his guild sleeping, some on the tables, some on each other whilst others were talking quietly to one another as he made it downstairs. He went to the closet and pulled forth all of the covers he could find and placed them over each member. Tonight they could sleep in Fairy Tail amongst one another holding each other close knowing that tomorrow would be a new day and that everything was going to be alright. He drooped the covers over the member before sitting at the bar watching them snore away. Al laughed lightly before pouring himself a small whisky and sitting back to look at them all;" Dream well all of you, you can all rest safely here. I won't let anything happen to you. Let your minds take you to places where anything can happen and dreams are reality." He sipped his drink as he ventured back up to his office to pull forth a cover which was stored in a cupboard and went downstairs.
He went into the closet once more to pull forth a magic mattress that would fit as many as one wished. He sighed as he gently moved every single member out of the way, carrying them in his arms as he set them down and moved the tables to the rims of the hall before forming the mattress to fit every guild member. He then carried each one once more and set them down with their quilts on the mattress as some slept with arms hanging out, some cuddled together. He sat back on one of the bar stools and looked over his family as they gracefully slept, he would watch over them tonight. Seeing that not one of them would suffer from nightmares, no more sad stories, no more pain. Al would see that all of them resting easy tonight as the day had brought many challenges and now he was prepared to watch over his members like a shepherd over his flock. Al smiled back and slowly raised his glass to his guild before taking a small sip and placing it down. As he pulled his hand away he looked at how his hand was placed and shaped it into the famed 'L' of Fairy Tail. He lifted his arm and looked out recognising what the responsibility was ahead of them and the burdens that may lay ahead. Fairy Tail would have enemies, which would go without question. But Al had the guild and the guild had him. Nothing was going to change that, not even death. Hell if he had too he would come back just to defeat any enemy that stood at Fairy Tail's gates. "This is... Truly... A Home." He thought to himself as he couldn’t help but watch as one of the females who used shifter magic tried to run like a puppy and Al had to clutch his mouth to stop himself from laughing and waking the others. He noticed that Chester was nowhere to be seen and began to worry.
The little Exceed had bounced from the upstairs banister to glide with his wings upon Al's head; " Everyone has gone sleepies Al, I Mean Master..." Chester corrected himself and Naziel lifted him from his head and placed him on his lap; " Chester... I don't know if I should be given the Title of master... Master is someone who is perfect in their eyes. How about we start with just Al and then when I have earnt that title then you can call me master... Plus I'm young! I will be the Guild Master, but I don't wish to be called master just yet."Al ruffled the cat's fur as Chester gripped his fingers tight; " Alexir... You are their master now. They chose you! You of all of the members, they picked you because you took control when others could not. That alone gives you the title of Master! After all you gave the Master a true Fairy Tail send off, even if he didn't see it... I know that he would have smiled at what we did." Chester had tears in his eyes as he looked out over the groups. Al looked at the group with wide eyes. Could the Exceed be speaking the truth of it? That because he had shown strength and unity when it seemed that it had gone, could that be why they chose him to be the new Guild Master? He would not know and he would not ask. He was happy to stand guard over them and to lead them into a happy future.
Al thought upon his family, the only two members he had left. Although he did not know one cousins name he knew the other only too well.
Slowly Alexir had begun to feel his eyes droop as he saw that Chester had curled on his lap and was now blowing an air bubble out of his nose as he drooled on him. Al's eyebrow twitched before letting it go. He laid an elbow on the side of the bar and continued to watch, not allowing his eyes to have the satisfaction of sleep. All night the young Guild master watched over the members of Fairy Tail, the ones he cared for so dearly. When they awoke the looked at him shocked and smiling at the lengths he had gone too to make sure they were comfortable. To uphold the bonds of Fairy Tail for as long as he lived.
