    Pets Rules and Information

    Post by Mizuko on Mon Sep 07, 2015 10:55 pm

    Each member of the site is permitted a pet. These pets can be simple companions, or they can be combat pets that fight with you at all times. All can accompany you on missions, though their type depends on whether or not they can participate, and whether they can die or not. Pets can be anything from a hawk to a small dragon, to a dog big enough for you to ride around. That itself is for you to decide. Here are the types of pets:

    Companion Pets:
    These pets are free at all ranks, as they are only used for companionship, and have no use in battle. These pets can know no spells, but they may have one non-combat ability, such as speaking or flying. These abilities are of D-Rank, and no higher.

    If you wish to change your Companion Pet to a Combat Pet, you must do a training thread of at least 500 words and purchase a Companion Rank Up in shop to train them in their first D-Rank combat ability. After that, they go on as any other Combat Pet.

    Combat Pets:
    Combat Pets are pets you can bring into battle with you. These pets vary in strength, size, and type, and can all be bought at the store. Each ability gained per rank up in Combat Pets must be equal in power to the rank it was gained at. Typically, each pet gains one ability per rank. If you so wish, two abilites can be combined to bump into one higher level ability, such as combining a D-Rank ability and a C-Rank ability to make a second B-Rank ability. This, however, would mean that your pet would no longer have any C or D-Rank abilities. They have less spell abilities than a Support Pet, but also have the ability of physical combat, which Support Pets are often to frail to handle. However, they can only use offensive and defensive spells.

    D Rank: 2 spells
    C Rank: 3 spells
    B Rank: 4 spells
    A Rank: 5 spells
    S Rank: 6 spells
    SS Rank: 7 spells
    X Rank: 8 spells

    Support Pets:
    Support Pets are pets that do not fight, but do participate in battle. They are pets that specialize in support techniques, such as speed increases, healing, protective spells, and any other typical supporting spells. They are, however, extremely frail and unable to enter in actual combat, merely supporting from the back. They do have higher mana reserves than a Combat Pet, as a way of making up for their frailty.  They also can know more spells than the typical combat pet. They gain 2 spells per rank, and can apply the same ability of combining two spells to make a spell of a rank higher than the highest rank in the combination. The two combined spells must be of equal or adjacent rank.

    E Rank: 1 spells
    D Rank: 3 spells
    C Rank: 5 spells
    B Rank: 7 spells
    A Rank: 9 spells
    S Rank: 10 spells
    SS Rank: 11 spells
    X Rank: 13 spells

    The health of a Support Pet is easily declined. A hit of a spell the same rank as a pet would deal the rank of a spell one rank higher, while a spell of one rank below will deal the same amount of damage a spell of the same rank would deal a Combat Pet.

    Exceeds:
    Exceeds are Dragon Slayer exclusive pets that come in the appearances of cats. They have a natural ability to use Aera or flight magic, as well as carry about one and a half full-grown human beings with ease. The occasional Exceed has the ability to grow to the size of a human, allowing them to more easily fight in combat. They are a mix between Support and Combat pets, and as such, have a spell amount that generally falls between them. They have the following spell slots:

    E Rank: 1 spells
    D Rank: 2 spells
    C Rank: 4 spells
    B Rank: 5 spells
    A Rank: 7 spells
    S Rank: 8 spells
    SS Rank: 10 spells

    Combat Pets, Support Pets and Exceeds can be killed in combat at any rank. A dead Combat Pet, Support Pet or Exceed cannot be revived, but a new one can be purchased. Like any other mage, they start at the beginning of a thread with 100% HP, and lose HP as attacked. To find the HP ranges for attacks, visit the Magic Rules. Combat Pets, Support Pets, and Exceeds can typically speak, though there is the occasional Combat Pet or Support Pet that can understand speech, but not talk. It is very rare to find a Combat or Support pet that has the same amount of human speech capability as the average dog.

    Training:
    Some pets that are purchased at lower ranks can be ranked up over time. The requirements for training a pet are as follows:

    D -> C Rank: 1000 WC training thread + Pet Rank Up
    C -> B Rank: 2000 WC training thread + Pet Rank Up
    B -> A Rank: 3000 WC training thread + Pet Rank Up
    A -> S Rank: 4000 WC training thread + Pet Rank Up
    S -> SS Rank: 5000 WC training thread + Pet Rank Up

    Note, training threads do not have to be simple training at all times, though the pet must be included in the topic. You can train your pet with another person, but each person must meet their own specific requirements in the thread, WC wise. No sharing word counts.

    Multiple Pets:
    A mage can have multiple pets at his disposal at any time. The current cap for pets is 2. These pets have different rank caps, as well. To start with, a pet can never be a rank higher than their owner, excluding mages of D-Rank, who may have a D-Rank pet. The first pet you purchase will have a rank cap of SS. However, once you purchase a second, the first may only cap at S. The second can only cap at B-Rank. If you have a pet that has already reached SS, you may purchase a second free of charge by lowering the first pet's rank to S.

    Really there's a huge lack of information here. Companion pets seem to not do anything while combat pets are the only thing with any detail, which is still heavily summerized. Get specific and detailed. It's organized great but everythings so briefly glossed over I can't really go into anything to much.

    My personal suggestion immediately off the bat are to give companion pets more detail and more say in a lot otherwise they're nonexistent. say they're abilities can be a little more ludicrous in comparison to those actually used in combat (for example).

    How limited can pet abilities get for each? If you don't set a limit you'll have pets who can fire nuclear warheads out of the buttholes and pee sulfuric acid.

    This ability fusion, what are the mechanics behind that? I like it a bit but I can't tell what its supposed to be doing.

    That's because companion pets don't do anything. They're companions, they essentially are like any other pet you'd find irl. As for abilities, obviously no self-respecting staff member would let something like that get by. Their rules, not borders on all you do. They're meant to be glossy at the beginning, and changed if anything is seen that people are using as a loophole to be OP. You seem to have a preference for making things more complicated than they need to be.

    There is a huge difference between Complicating and Clarifying. I want things explained so new members don't bombared you with 79 different questions or, as you stated, somebody uses a loophole, destroying as many loopholes as you can early makes for fewer issues.

    What if I want to change a companion pet into a combat pet?

    Why are exceeds getting more abilities then other combat pets? Dragon slayers will already have a bunch of advantages over other mages so why give their pets more abilities and add to that?

    A lack of clarification leads to abuse and exploitation. One type of pet has one sentence. Another has only three. Explain clearly and it won't complicate. The start here is great but its no where close to a finished product.

    Exceeds are a sentient species, which is why they have more slots. They're smarter than the average bear. I will add, however, the companion to combat info, as that makes sense.

    well any animal with the ability to speak fiorian is definately just as intelligent as an exceed.

    you have no idea how much better this looks. :D

    Anyway I'm a little on the fence with the training stuff because it can be spammed (I'm an average rper and I can hit most of those word counts in one post each without doing anything(S and SS being the exceptions and even then, two posts.)

    I like training stuff. It's just to easy to abuse right now. I'd also remove companion pets entirely because even a normal dog can bite and some of the limits seem a little leniant but overall this is fine based on whats already done.

    The jewel limits are based on what Serenity told me the gain was per post, which the highest will be 35. So I tried to make it reasonable based on that number. As for companions, they're there so people know that they're possible rather than just forcing people to buy a combat pet. Sure, any dog can bite, but there's a huge difference between a dog that bites to protect their owner, and a dog that knows some kind of weird gatsuuga thing or something else and attacks you like a torpedo.

    I'm gonna check out the WCs and raise them a bit

    I think the spells allowed should follow the same rules applied in the magic template

    D-Rank users: Three Free D Rank Spells

    C-Rank Users: Three Free D Rank Spells, 1 C Rank Spell

    B-Rank Users: Three Free D Ranks, 2 C Rank Spell, 1 B Rank Spell

    A-Rank Users, Three Free D Ranks, 3 C ranks, 2 B Rank, 1 A Rank spell

    S-Rank Users, Three Free D Ranks, 4 C ranks, 3 B Ranks, 2, A Rank, 1 S rank spell

    SS-Rank Users, Three Free D Ranks, 5 C Ranks, 4 B Ranks, 3 A Rank, 2 S Rank, 1 SS Rank

    Dark
    SS Rank
    Consumption Magic

    The spell ranks are different per pet type though. Which post type are you taking about? @Zed

    Either way, the spells done now were made in mind of the fact that pets are weaker than mages. Making the same spell numbers as mages would not make sense.
