It was the last day of the year. A lot of rebuilding had been done since the war, but the city was still far from what it once was. Nevertheless there was more reason to celebrate than ever, for nothing reminds us to appreciate peace more than to have experienced war. The king had organized a firework spectacle around the Castle for all of Crocus to behold. Citizens were even welcomed in the balcony area surrounding the castle. When the clock struck twelve the fireworks were lit and the people of Crocus celebrated the coming of a new year, one of peace and no evil.

Clawford was part of the crowd that had gathered outside to watch the fireworks. It was a busy crowd so he had to make his way through the jungle of legs, in hopes of finding a statue or railing for him to climb upon. He could always cast Aera to get a perfect view of the show, but he didn’t want to block anyone’s view with large wings so he chose not to. That’s the kind of exceed he was, rather putting himself through hardships than being a bother to others. “Excuse me, coming through”

After making his way through the crowd he finally stumbled upon the curtain wall of the castle and started climbing it. As soon as he was high enough to see the fireworks he paused his climbing to admire it, his heart filling with emotions that the year was over.

The new year has always been an exciting time. The transition of the old year into the promising new year was an even that had always struck excitement into the hearts of everyone, humans or non humans, young or old, mages or non mages. However this special occasion was a breath of fresh air for all citizens of Fiore. After the war there was simply grim fog, now the fireworks were a spark of hope that illuminated through the fog. It was a symbol that despite no matter how bad their losses were life can still go on. It was a beautiful sign.

That same year the king had issued fireworks in Crocus. Genesis had always loved fireworks. The bright burst of colors on the sky had always seemed majestic in her opinion. She wasn't a huge fan of the loud burt of noise which hurt her ears afterwards, however she could always place her fingers in her ears to muffle the sound slightly which was a relief to her ears. This year the fireworks held new meaning to Genesis however. It was the beginning of a new era, a new year that held countless adventures and opportunities. This coming year would be both the hardest yet it would also be the most promising year of her life.

The young wolf was excited as the clock's hands edged towards midnight. She forgot for a moment to act normally and begin to scurry around the city on all fours. Only when she recieved strange stares was when she realized how she was acting. Blushing slightly she gently patted the pebbles and dirt off her clothes. This wasn't how a guildmaster was supposed to act like however she simply couldn't help it. It was instinct after all.

As she came towards the castle she saw a large crowd of people. She wasn't very short, however she was much shorter than most of the people in the crowd. Genesis silently wished she could fly so she could get a better view. A whining sound escaped her lips. She couldn't hold it back. She placed both of her hands over her mouth as soon as the sound escaped her lips. She gave a rather exhausted sigh and shook her head. She would have to watch the fireworks over the heads of the people. However she did not complain, there were countless other firework shows in the future. Missing simply one of them won't be the end for her. However it was quite the shame should could not watch them.

The fact that he was colorblind didn’t matter to clawford, fireworks came in all shapes and sizes, and especially in Earthland it was a sight to behold. Though clinging to  a wall wasn’t the most comfortable way of viewing a show, thus he continued to climb until he was on top. The wall was about two and a half meters high, so he was standing higher than everyone else. Proud of his achievement he dusted off his paws with a pleased expression on his face, looking over at all those people who were now beneath his eye-level.

He wanted to sit down and enjoy the show, but just as he sat down a girl making a mumbling sound caught his attention. She clearly had difficulty seeing anything with all the tall people blocking the sight. It sure isn’t easy being short. He thought to himself.

He decided to help out by sharing his smart idea of viewing the show from the curtain wall. Most humans couldn’t climb walls that well though, but she had some animalistic features which improved the odds of possible climbing capabilities. “Heeeey!” he shouted carefree at the top of his lungs.

Hopefully she would hear him over the sound of fireworks, he was always happy to help out a person in need. Especially in this case since he could relate to her size problem. “Short girl! Up here! On the wall!”

He waved at her, still sitting on the curtain wall. “Climb on up. You’ll be able to see it perfectly from here”

Genesis sat down on the ground and sighed. She was quite upset that her dream of seeing fireworks would not come true. Might as well get what she was served, she sat down on the ground and leaned on the wall of a building. She looked up and embraced her knees with her arms. The show would start soon but the view she had wasn't great at all. She began to mumble loudly in frustration and tried to make herself comfortable from where she was sitting. As the clock edge towards midnight she was growing increasingly annoyed and inpatient.

Her ears perked up as she heard a voice. She looked upwards to see a cat calling down to her. She was confused, it wasn't everyday you got to see a talking orange cat. She looked at it confused for a second before she processed in her brain what it was saying. It was calling out at her to scale the wall to get a better view. Genesis looked at the wall with uncertainty. The wall looked as if only a skilled climber could scale it yet there was a cat who didn't seem to have any climbing skills at all who was on top of the wall.

She decided to give it a go. She tried to scale wall. She felt fear but yet there was also a strange wave of confidence. Genesis had no skill in climbing yet she felt as if she could climb it. It took a lot of effort but she seemed to get the hang of it. She climbed a bit and was soon off the ground a few meters. She was happy, possibly she could scale this large wall after all. However something happened that made her lose her breath. Her hand missed the next hold and she fell. As her back hit the ground the air was knocked out of her lungs
Fortunately she didn't make it too high so it only left her with a few scratches. She stood up and wiped the dust off her clothes. She tried to climb up again but she kept falling off. She grew increasingly nervous  for midnight was steadily approaching.

"I can't climb this wall." She yelled out to the cat. "It's too steep for me." She began to bring her tail between her legs and she whimpered. Her whimpering grew slightly louder. She tried again although she knew it was an impossible task to climb the wall and she should have just given up rather than trying some more.

It worked! Clawford had gotten the girl’s attention! He was pleased to see the girl decided to heed his advice, and watched her climb. When she was halfway through he walked over the thick edge of the curtain wall and positioned himself above her, watching her slowly get closer to the top. He moved on his knees and readied himself to take her hand, wanting to help her get up once she got high enough. Though his hand reached out much sooner than expected, as he watched the girl who was little over halfway up lose her grip and fall to the ground. “Watch out!”

When the girl fell he felt a shock of guilt come over him. She was hurt, and it was all because of him. Though to his relief the girl got back up again. He could see that she wasn’t badly hurt, yet still wanted to check in. “Are you okay?”

She seemed to be, since she continued to attempt to climb the thick stone wall. He wanted to offer his help, but he was afraid she would take it as an insult to her incapability. Especially as she continued to try despite her failure his admiration for her perseverance grew. But to all good things came an end, the girl concluding that it wasn’t going to be possible for her to climb the wall.

Nevertheless she made a last attempt. That’s when he decided he wasn’t going to watch her fall down anymore. No matter how badly he wanted to see her achieve her goal by herself, he didn’t want to see her hurt or upset. “Wait!”

He focused his magic on his shoulder blades, casting Aera, a magic that brought forth large, white angelic wings. He flew down until he was beside her at her eye-level, a bit of an apologetic look on his face for not stepping in until now. “Let me help”

He insisted. He moved behind her, his paws reaching out to grab her robe so that he could fly her up to the top of the curtain wall.

Genesis placed her face in her hands and sat with her back against the wall. She sadly stared at the clock tower in the distance as it was nearing midnight. She sighed and gave a few more very loud whimpers. She could hear the uproar coming from the crowd as their cheers became louder as midnight approached steadily. It was now only a matter of minutes before they would launch the fireworks.... ones that she would not be able to watch. This fact saddened her greatly. A thick cloud of sadness overwhelmed her. The sea of people in front of her only got louder and louder, the countdowns would soon begin. She cheered along with not as much gusto as the others had.

Suddenly she sensed something. It was a spark of magic. She raised her head up and looked around her. Was there a fellow mage who came to watch the fireworks. Perhaps she could ask them to boost her up so she could watch or something. However suddenly to her surprise she felt the back of the robe she was wearing being tugged up. She was lifted up as well. The floor became smaller and smaller the higher she went. She was finally able to see over the sea of people. When she looked up she saw that cat whom called out to her earlier. She was surprised. The cat grew wings, however she wasn't complaining.

A smile appeared on her face. She was going to be able to see the beautiful fireworks after all. Cheers filled the air as the clock neared the one minute mark. Just as they landed upon the top of the curtains the people began counting down. With a smile on her face, she followed suit. "Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three two, one." An ear-deafing cheer filled the crowd as the fuses flew into the air.

Genesis watched with delight as they exploded, painting colorful explosions across the black night sky. "Thanks owe you one. Without you flying me up here I wouldn't be able to watch the fireworks. I guess that's one of the cons of having your body develop slowly, even though it means you have a much longer lifespan." She said to the cat. "What's your name? My name is Genesis, I'm the guildmaster of Sabertooth." She said extending a hand out to the cat. She was very grateful to him for what he did.

The count-down filled Clawford’s heart with excitement. The fireworks that followed amazing to the exceed despite his incapability to see colors. The girl he helped up the curtain wall thanked him for the help, to this he smiled and gave a wink. “It’s no problem! I know what it’s like to be short. I can only fly for so long before I get tired, haha”

When he heard that Genesis was the guild master of Sabertooth he perked up, clapping his paws together three times with excitement. “Really! That’s so cool! I’ve been to Sabertooth a few years back, it was a really impressive place! Whoa, it’s such an honor to meet you.”

He shook her hand excitedly “my name is Clawford”

When he was done shaking her hand he looked at the fireworks again “It’s so pretty! I can’t imagine what it must be like if it were in color”

He looked up at her, his eyes big and sparkling with joy. He was really interested in mages, and to meet a guild master was especially interesting to him. “What’s it like to be a guild master? It must be such a big responsibility. And you must be super strong, right?! That’s so cool. You must be so busy too.”
